Prologue picture

Dr. Radoslav Danilák, Founder and CEO of Tachyum

As I write to you, Tachyum is in the middle of a critical transition: the end of the development phase and the beginning of the pre-production phase of Prodigy, the world’s first universal processor.

The product phase is characterized by expanding customer and partner relationships and rolling out international business strategies, including a larger native software ecosystem prior to mass production. We created a new customer/partner portal online to give access to the fully functional Prodigy emulation system running native Linux. We are collaborating with big-name partners (which must remain under NDA) and signed memorandums of understanding with two faculties at the Slovak University of Technology (STU) and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) to work together on AI projects that mutually benefit research, business, manufacturing, and academia. We are very happy that, in addition to technical universities, we are also expanding our cooperation with the Academy of Performing Arts. Today, modern film and animation production works with huge data sets, and AI supercomputer built on the Prodigy platform will significantly reduce the time required to process them.

As we shift from technical development of Prodigy – now available as a fully functional FPGA emulation system – and to our commercial strategy, we have expanded our business development team to support our aggressive production timeline goals. Finally, I have spent time attending and speaking at inspiring conferences and meetings to introduce Prodigy to some of the world’s leading technologists. I met people from my alma mater, Technical University in Košice. I am honoured to accept invitations from Prof. Thomas Lippert to visit the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany, and from Prof. Mateo Valero to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. We will bring more background information in the next newsletter.

Why it's important for countries to have “the best”:

The world fastest supercomputer, built in Slovakia, is a chance for the country to join the world stage

Unless a country is a superpower, it’s not easy to attract the world’s attention. For a small country to get the support of other nations and peoples, it needs something unique, something that’s the best in the world.

If a country wants to be recognized as a supercomputing power, it’s not enough to have a supercomputer in the top 100. It’s not even enough to have a supercomputer in the top 50. There are nearly 200 countries in the world. If researchers want a supercomputer to solve the most complex and challenging calculations, they don’t want the 50th best supercomputer. They want the best, second best, or maybe the third best.

With Tachyum’s Prodigy as the heart of the NSCC Slovakia Supercomputer, expected to debut in the first half of 2022 – the world’s fastest AI supercomputer – the entire nation wins.

A reference design featuring 256 Prodigy Processors per 54U rack delivers 1 AI ExaFLOP of compute power. This powerful AI performance can be used to address crucial international issues such as climate change, global health, and universal language translation. The eyes of the world will be on Slovakia, and Tachyum as the core of AI infrastructure.

Tachyum will be a highlight among Slovak exhibits at EXPO Dubai, Slovakia’s key event abroad in 2021-22, during Global Goals Week, January 16-22, 2022. Tachyum, in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, will host an event featuring a well-developed discussion on the importance of AI and supercomputer innovations in a knowledge society and its concrete benefits for humanity.

Partnerships accelerate the deployment of new technologies

Tachyum launched a new Customer and Partner portal to support the needs of those interested in early access to the company’s Prodigy Universal Processor Chip. The interactive resource platform will allow wider access to the world’s first universal processor beyond current partners who have had access to the Prodigy emulation system.

Tachyum and Slovak University of Technology (STU) Signed Memorandum of Understanding

The Faculty of Informatics and Information Technology STU does research in the fields of real-time analysis and data processing using AI in the fields of preventative medicine, genomic medicine and precision oncology. The faculty can leverage Prodigy as part of their use of AI and deep neural networks to interpret and understand natural images or other types of visual data.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology STU is involved in the development of telemedicine systems and the use of AI, ML and Artificial Neural Networks to process huge volumes of data to provide high levels of preventative healthcare, as well as home treatments. The faculty can use Prodigy as part of its participation in optimizing supercomputers and power-efficient data centers.

“Earlier discharge and home treatments, as well as reliable prevention, equires extremely high performance in the processing, reading and comparing of data by AI. Similarly, there will be huge demands on computing power and as the number of connected people grows, so too will the number of new patterns for recognition from both measured data and simulated or other existing sources. For the purposes of the development of telemedicine and the intensive support of preventive healthcare in Slovakia and throughout the EU, the key is to build an AI supercomputer based on Tachyum processors, which will be used in real time.” said Dr. Martin Donoval, Associate Professor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology STU.

Tachyum's cooperation with the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts will open up new possibilities for artistic creation

Tachyum and Film and Television Faculty of The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava signed Memorandum of Understanding. The mutual ambition is to tackle an open platform in the area of supercomputers, scientific, artistic and research activities in the field of big data and artificial intelligence, setting optimal conditions for using computers to create a film or game story, to express artistic aesthetics in relation to high computing power.

“The attractiveness and meaningfulness of university studies in Slovakia is one of the important tasks in our academic environment. The uniqueness of technologies and the exceptionality of talent must be combined so that Slovak students do not leave Slovakia to study abroad due to unique technologies and vice versa, so that our university artistic environment is attractive for foreign students,” said Ľudovít Labík, ArtD., Professor, Head of Atelier of Visual effects.

Innovation and technological potential of the Eastern Slovakia region is still a bit undiscovered. The IT sector is extraordinarily well developed here. Dr. Radoslav Danilák, CEO and founder of Tachyum, and Robert Cisár, Business Development Manager, visited Cassovia New Industry Cluster (CNIC), Košice IT Valley Cluster and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University. The result of the meetings is a perspective collaboration to support education in the field of supercomputers and AI, cooperation in commercialization of scientific knowledge and intellectual property, building High Performance Computing infrastructure based on Tachyum reference architecture.

Dr. Danilák and Professor Pavol Sovák, the Rector of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The aim is to take Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning teaching to a higher level and to enrich dissertations with a new element - Tachyum’s emulator for the future supercomputer. Interesting questions from a mathematical and theoretical-informatics point of view also arise in the field of new data structures created by Tachyum engineers. Here is a space for communication between science and engineering.
